I was in St. Malachy's cla** of '53 and I lived on Atlantic Ave. between Hendrix and Schenck. There was a bank on the corner of Atlantic and Hendrix. I went to those dances at St. Michael's and belonged to the Third Order of St. Francis there. That is where I met my husband,Frank. He is originally from Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish. I remember Bob Reddington and thank him for all the great pictures, especially of the priests at St. Michael's. Fr.Capistran married us and was a good friend of ours. He baptized our daughter. It is so nice to look back at what was. I visited there 2 years ago and, unfortunately, the neighborhoods were not taken care of, as we took care of them. As a girl, I went to the feasts at St. Rita's, visited the neighoorhood churches on Holy Thursday and really enjoyed the neighborhood. Did a lot of walking in those days. I now live in No. Carolina an surprisingly, I met a couple who used to go to Cypress Pool and Jahn's ice cream parlor and the Valencia theatre. Thanks to everyone for the memories. |
