Message: Wow, I remember Dr. Catapano also, he was our family doctor. He always made house calls and once when he came to check on my grandmother I was also sick with pains in my stomach, he checked me out and immediately had me sent to the hospital for my appendix! Those were the days when you only had one family doctor and it seemed more caring then. His sister Rosie was my next door neighbor. Nice man!

Message: Thanks for all your kind words about my dad, John Catapano. I too remember all those late night house calls; he had dinner after he finished.

It was such a different error, no one was ever turned away because they couldn't pay. Most people would pay what they could and owe you the rest. No monthly bills were sent out because no one was ever out to cheat you, people paid what they could when they could. When he died, all outstanding debts died with him.

The house ended up being sold for next to nothing because no one could get a mortgage and people kept breaking in and destroying it.

Anyway, thanks for the kind words on this Easter Sunday!

Message: I grew up on Sheffield Avenue across from the Piels Factory. Around the corner was Burger Prince and Maxwell High School. I moved from there in 1971 and we ended up on Ridgewood Avenue, one block from Highland Park. The best place to go sledding in the winter!

Message: Speaking of doctors: Does anyone remember Dr Norton, (I think his first name was Robert) on Arlington Ave? I don't remember what the cross street was, but we went a bit of a distance from Lincoln and Jamaica to see him, AND he made house calls. He was our pediatrician until we were 12 years old, then we went to Dr Monto on Highland Place, just off Jamaica Ave.
