People are right, no matter what it was called, skelzy/skelly/skully/skellzies, it was a great fun game to play. I was just trying to settle a long running argument that now doesn't seem to matter. Kids nowadays have no clue about all the great street games we used to play. I also played most, if not all, the games mentioned here and they were all great fun. Thanks again folks. |

I remember playing Hot Peas and Butter and it was one of the most thrilling games I ever played. If we are talking about the same game that is. One would hide the belt anywhere within the vicinity of the block and the rest of the kids that were playing would have to go out and try to find it. As one would get closer to the hidden belt, the person that hid it would shout out either "Hot" or "Cold" if he was getting away from the belt. If you was one of the unfortunate souls to be around the person the found the belt than your at his mercy for he could hit you with the belt until you get back to the base. The faster guys would always be up in the front looking for the belt, while the slowest ones would hang out around the base because they knew that they would be dead meat caught up in the front. Anyway, it's sad to see that the kids of today don't play the streetgames that we used to play because they would rather play with their computers!! |

I think your right about the village because the game was played in St. Rita's Marion yard at lunch and recess and that was just a block away. We used to play ringo and johnny on the pony there too. Another lunch time game was triangle slap ball. do you remember "fluk" pitching on a bounce playing slap? Those were the days. See ya later, Joey |
