Message: To Virginia Perniciaro,

I see you mentioned that Billy Klawsnik pa**ed last week. I too wrote about it on the boards. I knew "Little Billy" (as we called him) for a long time. He was very good friends with another friend of mine named Paul Brodzinski. We all grew up together on Jamaica Avenue many, many years ago. Today is his Funeral. His family needs lots of prayers.

Message: I am 58 years old. As far as Skelly or Skelzie.... Whatever you call it it was fun. Best part you actually played with a real person. I feel bad for the kids today,I really wonder, when they get older if they will have great memories like I have.
I will never forget getting the bottle caps from the old coke machines.

Message: I grew up on Hendrix Street, between Fulton and Atlantic Avenue. This website is truly amazing for it brings back great memories. I went to PS 76, graduating in 1971. I can remember the games that we played as kids such as punchball, skelly, johnny on the pony, ringolivio, chinese handball and many more.Stickball in the schoolyard of St. Malachy was always fun. Kids nowadays are only interested playing with their computers and have no idea as to what Highland Park was great for me because I got to play a lot of soccer there. If anybody out there has pictures of PS 76 can they be as so kind to share them? How about playing with your baseball cards and the delicious stick of gum that came with the cards. I just wished that I had saved all my cards!

Message: Hey Al, I sure do remember those slate sidewalks. We always played it in the street though. Someone had carved a skelzy court in the old asphalt on my block and it was the one we played on for years until they finally repaved the street. I remember that one of the kids had made a skelzy piece out of gla** from one of the old coca cola bottles before they made the twistoff caps. He was able to break off the round top portion of the bottle that you would drink thru. It was great 'cuz it had weight to it and would slide great on the asphalt. He was also able to blast you half way down the block with it too!! LOL

Message: Phil, thanks for your input. You are one of the very few older guys I've heard from who called it skelly. I thought it was mostly younger kids than me that started calling it skelly 'cuz it sounded cooler than calling it skelzy. Your right about kids today. Many have no idea what it is to play street games 'cuz they're too busy glued to the t.v. playing video games.

Message: Skelzy, as I knew it, was best played on the slate type sidewalk, possibly bluestone, for a better slide. Also, you would put a penny in before the melted crayon to blast the other caps out, preferably into the street, never to be seen again. Even Skelzy could be a ruthless game at times.
