Date: Thu 09/13/07 9:32AM From: Marge Bivona Email: margebivona@cox.net Message: I grew up on Montauk Ave, between New Lots Ave and Blake Ave in ENY between 1954-1964. I attended St. Malachy's School on Atlantic Ave (I think) for about 1 year and then St. Gabriel's School on Euclid Ave (I think)and New Lot's Ave until 1964. I know the school is no longer there, but I see no reference to it at all. I wonder if the Church (on Linwood St) is still around. I thoroughly enjoy this website. It's fun to look back as much of my childhood years were the best and most formative years of my life. Thanks for sharing. Marge Bivona |

Date: Mon 09/10/07 1:54PM From: Tom Castaldi Email: tomcornsnake@yahoo.com Message: I remember Kick the Can,Red light Green light,Carpet guns, Marble guns,Fishing balls out of the sewer with a coat hanger. I lived on Glenmore ave and around the corner was Pitkin Ave. The subway ran along Pitkin and along the sidewalk were ventilation grates. This was the place where treasures were found down the grates.People often lost Tokens and change down there. If you had a long pole and a piece of chewing gum, you were lucky. A small lock on a piece of string with car grease also worked well. At that time a token was worth 10 cents. Never a dull moment. |
