Date: Sat 02/3/07 3:19PM From: phyllis isola Email: phyllisisola@aol.com Message: I remember eating at Vesuvio's Restaurant on the corner of Liberty Avenue (and Cleveland Street, I think). He was also known as Don Pepe. The food was delicious and it was a hangout of some of the local "boys" in the neighborhood. I also loved to go with my cousins to the feast on liberty avenue, St. Cosmas and Damiano and I think sometimes they even had Italian singers. We had so much fun. Anyone really remember Vesuvio and the owner Mike. I know they relocated to Ozone Park near the racetrack. I went to St. Michael's HS, graduated in 1963, but lived in our lady of loreto parish on pacific street. Did anyone know anybody in that parish? Great website........ |

Went to ENY Vocational Annex til 1960.Some of you out here will remember my brothers and sisters. Oldest first---KICKIE (Vincent),Billy,Jimmy,Eddie,Rene,( Maureen )Robbie,Nancy ,Sue and Ginger. Some of the best days of my life were in that period. My best friend was Paul (BOWIE)Boehme and his brother Richie. I grew up with the Ascher family who lived at 357 Warwick St. I worked as a kid after school at John Mirandas gas station on Glenmore and Warwick. I went to school with the Dawsons and the Ballards families. At lunch time recess from St. Michaels we would pick up a whole "SQUARE PIE from D'Amicos bakery on Liberty and Ashford and run home to eat it and be back to school in time.I also remember in my late teens working over night down in the basement of the bakery helping to make the fresh Italian bread.I went to school with one of the daughters ,Andria I think her name was. Some of the KIDS I grew up with were the Catapanos (Warwick ST)Gabe Alfierie (Liberty & Ashford)Joey Cataldo from Glenmore Ave(Ashford & Warwick)and sooooo many other great people that I could spend days writing about them all. I live on Long Island but I still go back to the old neighborhood a half dozen times a year just to remember the GOOD OLD DAYS. Hope my old friends are still out there and doing well. Until later I thank you for thr great job of putting this site together . |
