I grew up at 187 Ashford Street and went to St. Rita's School, cla** of 1970 and St. Michael's High School, cla** of 74. I was at St. Rita's this Holy Thursday, for services and purchased a St. Rita's 100th Anniversary tee shirt - I was thrilled ! I also stopped at St. Michaels. I go up Ashford Street occasionally and once saw someone sitting on my old porch. I stopped and talked to a very pleasant woman, who actually brought me in the house to look around. One of my "bucket List" items fulfilled ! And my backyard was almost the same way we left it ! Nowadays, there's no more sitting on porches with your neighbors to escape the summer heat, playing anything and everything outside, and knowing that you could knock on any door on the block and when it opened, there was a friend. Now most neighbors are strangers. So much for progress.. Again it's a pleasure to view this website, and thank you so much for all the wonderful memories. I will visit often. |

| Date: Sat 03/9/13 9:39AM From: michael antonivich Email: mikeee863@aol.com Message: Anyone remember hitching to Rockaway Beach --me and my friend Charlie Peters from Hale Avenue used to do it all the time starting by the overpa** at Logan and Atlantic--I remember one time a trucker took us to Lido beach instead where we helped him unload laundrey and made a few bucks --we had some really good times. I used to play basketball alot at the Highland Park Courts sometimes 5 or 6 hours a day--I remember my hands being black from the asphalt when I went home --me and some friends once palyed the Colts (who were a pretty serious team--we were not) in tackle in the mud at Highland Park I think Gordon Fleming was our quaterback and if my memory serve me well I think we lost 35-0 but we had a few good moments --this black dude Lonnie Brown played with us and he caught a long pa** snd almost scored--how you doing Lonnie?
