Mike was a good friend and a good team mate. The Vikings would not have been the same without him. He was our manager as well as a linebacker. He was the organizer that made the team what it was.

Message: Just back on this site today and am saddened to see that Ralph Caluontoni pa**ed on in December.

He was such a nice man, and he helped me with a great tip when I met him one long-ago day in Belle's candy store on Fulton near Highland Place. He heard me tell Belle that I just bought my first car after getting my license, a used Buick Regal, and he told me about a great place to take my car for maintenance or when it needed a good mechanic -- Joe's Garage on McKinley Ave. off Crescent Street.

I used to go there with my young son, chat with Joe while someone worked on the car, or sit outside on the park bench if it was a nice day. We both came to enjoy these Saturday trips to Joe's. I continued going there even when I moved to Queens. Joe eventually retired, and one of his mechanics named Ralph took over. Then I found out that Joe had pa**ed away and the mechanic couldn't stay and run the garage in that area anymore -- the place was broken into via its skylight during the years when drugs took over Cypress Hills & City Line.

The garage business moved to the Valley Stream area, I think, and I lost touch. With that garage, you never paid tax on the parts your car needed, and Joe, and afterward, Ralph, the later owner, kept their labor prices down overall. Imagine having such a good experience with a first car, used, and a local mechanic shop. Thanks, Ralph Caluontoni, for that great tip! Rest in peace.
