I remember going to St. Rita's on Sunday Morning, the best part was smelling everyone making Sunday "GRAVY"for the macaroni.Today it is sauce over pasta. Out of respect, you called your parents friends uncle and aunt. Family members would visit often without an invitation (Thank God) If I close my eyes, I can see my Father behind the bar with everyone watching the 13" Philco black and white TV high on the wall. I can smell the Perodi cigar my Uncle T.G. (Tony Gironta) would smoke. And yes, I can see my mom and my aunt Betty working in the kitchen. What happy days! |

Date: Mon 08/28/06 7:08PM From: Michael Raffio Email: mraffio@rcl-enterprises.com Message: Does anyone remember the toy factory fire on Atlantic Avenue between Shepherd and Essex around the corner from St. Rita's? I think it was mid to late 60's. The entire factory went up in smoke and I don't think it ever reopened. I remember it was winter because the water from the fire trucks froze to the window sills and hung there for weeks. |
