Message: My grandfather Dr.Edward May lived in that beautiful house on Schenck Ave. My dad Dr.John F. May was a dentist as was his brother Edward whose family lived on Jerome St as noted here a with that great story! Nannie Quinn's other daughter Ginny Brown lived across the street on Jerome. My dad spoke fondly of his roller and ice hockey teams,(He played goalie for St John's Prep).
I remember the trips from New Rochelle to "Uncle Ed's and Aunt Fran's", and how we were only allowed to "look" at that pool table.Plenty of candy though!!!
*What a great site!!! Good luck.

Message: I lived at 89 Chestnut Street in Cypress Hills. I also went to Blessed Sacrament and was married there in 1971. That was such a special tume and I still keep in touch with childhood friends. Seeing Cypress Pool brought tears to my eyes. I had a "season pass" there from 1958-1962 and again with my children in 1982. I was so sad to see it go. In the 50's and 60's, the pool was owned by a family named Brigoulio (Not sure about the spelling) I also have pictures of 2 of the lifeguards, one on the lifeguard stand. I also have my graduation picture from Blessed Sacrament Kindergarten. I'm sure my mother have a lot of pictures from that time and I'm going to look for them. This is a GREAT site!!!! Thanks for the memories!!!

Message: What a great site. I grew up in cypress hills first on Hemlock St then on Adler Place. For many years during the 60's and 70's I roamed the steets of that neighborhood selling ice cream in a funny looking blue and white truck called MISTER SOFTEE. Maybe someone remember me. My route was bounded on the north by Jamaica Ave on the south by Conduit Blvd on the West by Chestnut street and on the east by the queens border line. My best memories are back there in Cypress Hills.
on that subject does anyone remember George the Bubgalow Bar man he sold ice cream in that same neighborhood for almost forty years until he had a heart attack around 1968.

Message: Lived on Hemlock St adjacent to the old Cypress Hills Pool. Spent many summer days there in the late thirty"s up to the mid forties. Punch ball in the streets, sleigh riding down the big hill at Highland Park, the showboat restaurant next door to the pool, JHS 171, where I graduated from in June 1945, still have the class picture. Moved to 124th st and Jamaica Ave in 1945 and attended Richmond Hill HS. Also, lived a year in 1949/41 at 3435 Fulton St above Minors hat shop, next to Henry Blanke Delicatessen and across from Beissers candy store, close to the Gem/Adelphi movie theater. Went to Pratt Institute, moved to Littleton Colorado, and retired from Lockheed Martin. Sure have a soft spot in my heart for the old neighborhoods. Thanks for doing such a fine job with them. HR
