My brother and I used to walk down to the Highland Park resevoir when we were young children in the early 1920's. We lived on Segal Street, and walked down Bushwick Avenue to Highland Park. Other days we walked across the Williamsburg Bridge. Thaks for the memories. |

There was a sand processing building with a huge pile of screened sand and a lot of broken building foundations. We would go there and sneak a smoke hiding in the rubble. Seems like it was yesterday. |

It was really a lot of fun trying to climb over the fence with roller skates on LOL. We also used to play behimd the senior citizens center on Richmond and Fulton. Those were the days! |

I lived in the apartment building on the corner of Highland Place and Ridgewood Avenue till I was 10 then my parents bought a house on Chestnut Street. I actually moved back to the neighborhood a while ago and don’t think it’s quite as bad as some make it out to be. I do recognize some of the names listed here and it’s a real great site! |

Date: Tue 03/27/12 12:14PM From: Be'er Hagolah Institutes Email: Bhagolah@aol.com Message: Dear Past Residents of the East New York Projects, We recently marked the end of the 30-day mourning period, of our beloved dean, Rabbi Avner German, the rabbi who impacted so many in the projects of East New York- in his synogague, Congregation Bnai Israel, and his Talmud Torah. He influenced the lives of thousands of families and children who went on to become successful adults. The greatness of our loss is felt by all. We have put a lot of thought into how to best perpetuate his memory. One idea is to rename our school The Ner Avner Be’er Hagolah Institutes. The renaming event will take place at a large-scale dinner in New York, which is tentatively scheduled for some time in June. Every individual who crossed paths with Rabbi German meant the world to him. We would appreciate if you are able to a**ist or get involved in any capacity. We will commemorate the legacy of Rabbi German and his incredible life by paying tribute to the many groups whose lives were touched by Rabbi German and whom he held in the highest esteem: ▪ His students from his Talmud Torah on Hendrix Street ▪ His congregants at Congregation B,nai Israel ▪ His students and alumni from Be’er Hagolah Institutes ▪ His contemporaries & fellow activists in Jewish education &outreach. Also, we would like to print a commemorative book and video on Rabbi German’s life. Please send us your stories and memories. We look forward to your response. Please send responses to: ▪BHagolah@aol.com ▪Be’er Hagolah 671 Louisiana Avenue Brooklyn, New York, 11239 ▪Facebook.com/Beer.Hagolah ▪Call our office at 718-642-6800 Look out for further correspondence regarding this momentous event.
