The year was 1959-1960 P.S.76 the second grade cla** of Mrs.Hofflinger. I believe my cla**mate's name (we sat together 2 per bench)was KEEGAN ,possibly Steven (?) and he was electrocuted playing in the train yards with his brothers. I was told he steeped on the 3rd rail and died immediately. To this day i can picture the two of us sitting together and laughing, fighting and learning. Does anyone remember this tragic incident? If so please reply so i can ease my thoughts after 52+ years. Thank you for your attention. NEIL SCHULTZ |

Date: Wed 12/28/11 6:38PM From: James Clark Email: Jim@jclark.net Message: I am an ENY alumni. I was born in 1953 and we lived on 665 Glenmore Ave from 1953 until 1963. My family then moved to 3159 Fulton Street and we stayed there until 1968, when we moved to Long Island. My Grandfather lived in the Apratment building on 59 Logan. On Fulton Street, we lived on the the 3rd floor, and my bed was 15 feet from the El tracks. The trains ran slower in the evenings and the rythmic clickity clack of those trins put me to sleep every night for 5 years. I can still remember seeing a pool of blood on the sidewalk from the pool hall's murdered owner; at the corner of Fulton & Logan on my way to PS 65. I was growing up just as the race riots were beginning to unfold. A lot of what I witnessed in our neighborhood during that time was far from pleasent; but I hung out with the right people, made good friends playing stick ball and I learned how to ride a bike through the busy streets with 100 papers in the basket (LI Press). In 1967, I was paperboy of the year for my district . Tips and all, I wouldn't have wanted to grow up anyhwere else. James Clark JHS171, Cla** of 1967 |

Mentions of Hale Bowling Alley reminded me that I used to set pins there when I was a sophomore in high school. I guess I was about 15 then. |
