Wow !! I forgot all about that stuff.I remember mixing it with seltzer to make soda.

"Still have not found a comparable egg cream in Florida. Ah! Memories!"

These days it's gotten hard to find a real egg cream in New York City. I won't say impossible because there may still be one or two places that knows how to make them.

Message: UBET was a favorite back then as well, especially for chocolate egg creams since it was chocolate flavored. The Fruit flavored syrup, as I mentioned below, is Zarex and came in 16 oz gla** jugs with a little round handle on the side.

Message: From the internet I found the following, but not a photo of the jug. Thanks to all that responded.
Zarex

ZaRex - was a very popular sweet drink concentrate in the 1970s. It was sold as early as the 1950s. The mascot and logo is a Zebra. It is still being made and sold. It is available in Raspberry and may be available in other flavors as well. It is made by One Pie Canning Co. of W. Paris Maine 04289. Phone: 207.674.3920, Fax: 207.674.2510

Zarex is also the name of a hero of Ancient Greek mythology. [http://www.mythindex.com/greek-mytholog y/Z/Zarex.html]

"Zarex Corporation" (probably named after the ancient Greek hero, rather than the drink) is also the name of Frederick Hohman's recording company, specializing in organ music, through its "Pro Organo" label, and "Midnight Pipes" video series."

Jingle

The catchy jingle is still well remembered by East coast children of the 1970s:

Zarex the Zebra is zipping along...And everyone's singing the Zarex song...Zarex is zippy...Zarex is zappy...Zarex will make your whole life (or mouth) happy.Nine delicious true fruit flavoursZarex should be what you drink.

Uses

You can add water to it to make a drink or you can pour it over ice cream or snow cones. It also mixes well with seltzer, club soda, and ginger ale, and can be used to flavor lemonade or iced tea.

Container

ZaRex comes in a screw-top gla** bottle. In the 1950s, Zarex came in a gla** jug with a little handle on one side. The bottle holds 16 fluid ounces of syrup which can make four quarts of drink. It does not need to be refrigerated.

Ingredients

(for Raspberry ZaRex): High fructose corn syrup, water, raspberry and other natural flavors, citric acid, red no. 40, Blue no. 1, preserved with sodium benzoate.

Message: Hello All, I just came back to visit the site to check on updates and found out that St. Rita's School is or has closed down. This was a wonderful institution that served the neighborhood for many, many years, and I'm saddened to hear that it'll be closed. I went there for 2 years, from 1964 - 1966, and had Sr. Anthony Miriam and Sr. Mary Frances Paula. Prior to that, I'd attended PS 108, which was just across the street from where I lived at 291 Arlington Avenue. Let me send a 'shout out' to any of my old friends from the neighborhood that come to the site. BTW, I ordered the book on ENY by the 'moderator' of this site, and it's an amazing tome, filled with many pictures and lots of very interesting stories. If you haven't ordered it yet, don't miis it! Best Regards to All-

Message: Does anyone remember the name of the concentrated flavored syrup you mix with water and ice for a good summertime refresher? Prior to Kool-Aid and was packaged in a small gla** jug-like container. It could also be put on vanilla ice cream. No results on Google search. Thanks. Please post or respond to my email.
