The gentlemen 4th from the left is my dad Louis Marengo. The young boy 1st row 3rd from the right is my brother Anthony Marengo. I would estimate it around 1947. Hope this helps. |
Date: Tue 07/5/16 9:24PM From: Elizabeth Ehrlich Email: elizabeth.ehrlich@gmail.com Message: Until the early 1970s I visited my grandmother on Highland Blvd. and Miller Place, in the house my father grew up in and his parents bought new in 1923. My grandfather had a pharmacy on Vermont Street (he died before I was born). As a child (from Michigan) I was taken to visit PS 76, the local library (perhaps Arlington Branch), Temple Sinai, the Reservoirs and playgrounds of Highland Park, grocery shopping on Sutter Avenue. I met many neighbors, learned to play cla**ic NY stoop and sidewalk games, and heard many stories. Those visits were among my favorite childhood occasions! I included a few ENY descriptions and stories in my 1997 memoir, Miriam's Kitchen. |

On the inside front cover of the book, is that a picture of Belmont Avenue and Shepherd Avenue with Bennetts Pharmacy (?) on the right and P.S. 64 in the distance on the left? Thanks for taking the time to answer. |

We moved to Ridgewood for a few years, then back to 111 Ridgewood Ave, going to FKL 1952-1955. Spending many happy times at Corde's, with great memories of some special guys and girls. Sat nights were spent going to dances at Sts Rita's, Michael's and Mallachy's. It was still a time of innocence. |
