I was in second grade at St. Rita's and we had no school that day (or at least my cla** didn't) on account of the fire. I remember standing across the street on Atlantic Ave. on that freezing morning watching the fire. The next day the school smelled from smoke. We moved about a year after that. The building was still in ruin when we left. I do believe however that a renovated version of that same building still stands.There is a building in pretty much the same spot, same address, same size, same design. So I suppose they rebuilt it some time after we moved. In any event it was interesting to see the news picture. It's amazing how clearly I remember that morning. It was the first time I saw a building for like that. |

I am also looking for any old pics from Loring Avenue, before they built the projects. My Grandparents had a house on Loring Avenue , that they were forced to sell to make room for project housing. My Grandparents lived on Doscher st, Frank and Frances Mannarino, My Mother and Father Margaret Mannarino and Edward Mannarino lived on Logan street until 1962, when they relocated to Bay Shore, Long Island. My mothers Parents (Margaret Brasile), Leo and Catherine Brasile lived on Loring avenue. If anyone has any pics they can post or if they knew any of my relatives, I would love to talk with you Ed Mannarino |
