Date: Sat 06/20/09 9:17PM From: Mario Zambrano Email: Franshley@yahoo.com Message: Hello my fellow East New Yorkers, I would like to wish all of you fathers out there a Happy Father's Day! I wrote a little poem in honor of my father, but it could be for anybody's father for that matter. Rick, I know that you lost your father this year, this one is especially for you... ---------------------------------------- ----- A Promise There you were, waiting for me to come out You were anxious to see me and ready to shout You wanted the whole world to know and to scream You just became a Dad and had realized your dream! You really did not care whether I was a boy or a girl You prayed for a healthy child to come into this world! You picked me up and whispered in my ear, "Hello there, no need to worry and no need to fear". I will make a promise that with your mom and I together, We will always love and take care of you forever!" And to this day you have done exactly what you said you would You have protected and loved me like a loving Dad should. I can never forget all the times when you helped me with the homework, Especially on those nights when you came home tired from your work! Or when I tried to ride my bike without the training wheels from the rear, I was scared as hell but your voice made it much easier to pedal without fear! I remember all the times when you came and stood by my side Teaching me to always stand on my own and never to run and hide! I can remember the very first time that you took me to Shea, I saw my heroes, Seaver, Agee, Harrelson and Cleon that day! My eyes were wide open and I did not want to miss a single play! I can never forget my high school graduation day, You choked up and for the first time you had nothing to say! But there you were taking pictures of me everywhere, Pictures that you were proud of and always happy to share! I remember the patience you showed while teaching me to drive your car, I can still hear mom yelling " be careful and don't go too far!" Kids always need heroes and you never let me down, Everytime I looked to you for answers you were always around! You kept your promise and on this special day for you I must add, I thank you for being the greatest dad that anyone has ever had! I love you Dad! By Mario Zambrano |
