Postcard Update

My brother Bruce dilligently tracks down all the postcards, but it sometimes takes awhile before I catch up with him. Some of these are already on the site but in much poorer quality so these will be significant upgrades.

Ridgewood Avenue, East New York
Maker: Art Novelty & Postcard Co. Dated: Unk Staus: Own (BG)
OK, we'll start with the cards that aren't on the site. For fun see if you can identify the exact location. When you are ready to check or give up, see the bottom of the page.
Barbey Street, East New York
Maker: Thompson Dated: 1908 Status: Own (BG)
We'll let you guess on this one as well. See the bottom of the page when you're ready.
Barbey Street, from Jamaica Ave.
Maker: Fick Dated: 1911 Status: Own(BG)
This one is on the site already, but this is a substantial upgrade. If you need a hint with the previous card, this will provide it to you.
Sunnyside Avenue Group Richard's Real Homes
Maker: Albertype Dated: Unk Status: Own (BG)
A favorite of mine, the decorations are a little too perfect to be a neighborhood event. I'm pretty sure it was a marketing event for new construction. That looks like the south side of the block to me.
Public School No. 108, Brooklyn N.Y.
Maker: L.J. Becker Date: Unk Status: Own (BG)
We've never seen a card from this maker. A very rustic shot; the street is still cobblestone. We're guessing close to 1900.
Arlington Avenue Presbyterian Church Arlington Avenue and Elton St.
Maker:Albertype Dated: 1916 Status: Own (BG)
This one is on the site in smaller form. For those that haven't looked on the Church page, the building on the far right is the original wooden church, which is removed in the 1920's to allow the church to build a Sunday School. It wasn't hard to date the card (see reverse) since it was advertising the next service!
Trinity Hospital, East New York Avenue
Maker:P Miller Dated: 1915 Status: Own (BG)
Over to Zone 1 now, this upgrade of a beautiful P. Miller card is our best shot of the old Trinity Hospital. I needed a magnifying glass to make out the sign in front of the building; it's sort of quaint so you can take a guess and see the answer at the bottom of the page.
Christ Evang. Reformed Church
Maker:Fick Dated: 1911 Status: Own (BG)
Another upgrade to the site, a real nice card with a view south down Wyona. On the reverse, an invitation to join the annual Brooklyn Day Sunday School parade.
St. Malachy's Rockaway Park N.Y.
Maker:Artvue Dated: Unk Status: Own (BG)
This is not East New York, but St. Malachy's had an orphan home. I have not researched the history on the home yet.
Wartburg Chapel
This 1962 promotional card produced by Custom Studios is a little different in that they used a nighttime shot. The Chapel is part of the Wartburg Lutheran Home for the Aged, and is still standing.
Church of the Blessed Sacrament
Maker:I Stern Dated: Unk Status: Own (BG)
Over to Zone 4, this is an upgrade of the card showing the first church.
Pennsylvania Ave and Liberty Street
Maker:Fick Dated: 1910 Status: Own(BG)
This is an upgrade card, with a reference to Liberty "Street". On the left is the YMCA and on the right across Liberty is St. Clements. Some more trivia- check the back of the card and see if you recognize the language. See the bottom of the page for the answer.
Belmont Avenue, 1910
This reproduction postcard is a fairly well known shot of the street vendors on Belmont Avenue back in 1910. It's actually off of Thatford Ave., which is Brownsville, but certainly typical of all of Belmont Ave. in that day.
Old Mill, Foot of Crescent Street
Maker:Fick Dated: Unk Status: Own(BG)
Maker:Shinske Dated:Unk Status:Own (BG)

Still finding cards of the Old Mill.
Wesley M.E. Church
Maker:Fick Dated: Unk Status: Own (BG)
No longer standing; see Zone 6 for more info.
Trivia Answers
Ridgewood Ave.-The view is right from the beginning of Ridgewood Avenue at Warwick Street, looking east towards Ashford.

Barbey Street-The view is the east side of Barbey, looking south a few houses down from Jamaica Avenue. Though postmarked 1908, the image is pre-1906 as Reformation Church is not visible.

Trinity Hospital-The sign reads, "Hospital Street, Walk Your Horses".

Penn and Liberty- The language is German, written in the old style script used before World War II. Thanks to Yvonne Temann for tipping us off on that one.
