Update Page

We've had some nice contributions from new fans, so I thought I would post a few here before I get to the updates of those specific zones.

Blessed Sacrament
Charles Rabus sent in these shots - the June 1957 graduating class (we have the January class already on the site) and a really nice wedding shot from 1967 looking up the aisle at the altar.
Vacation Bible School Class, 1940
To my delight, we have found someone connected to the Euclid Baptist Church. Alan Heins sent in this picture taken circa 1940 on the church grounds. Alan has provided me with some history and we're hoping he can supply some more pictures so I can complete the story when I update Zone 6.
Synagogues
Demetrius Pestun is helping us backfill the missing synagogues from the site. On the left in Temple Achim Bnai Jacob. Located on Glenmore and Miller, it was built in 1921 and is now I believe the Second Calvary Baptist Church. On the right is Sons of Judah Temple, built I believe around 1930. Located on Sutter Ave. between Barbey and Jerome, it is now Messiah Baptist Church.
St. Michael's, 1st Communion
Frank Moscatelli sent in this shot which we are guessing to be around 1958.
Here's a slice of life from a bygone era. It's a rather ordinary shot, looking north up Williams Avenue from Pitkin in 1941. On the corner building, however reads a sign; "Storage- $5 Live, $2 Dead". I suppose its some form of poultry storage, have fun guessing.
This is a teaser shot. If you can believe it, we have heard from Peter Rapalje, a descendant of the Rapaljes who were a fixture in East New York in the 1800s into the early part of the 1900s. Peter has sent over a number of pictures and a great deal of history and I am hoping I can put together a section that will do it all justice. His grandfather took a number of shots along New Lots Avenue back in 1913 while all the old farmhouses were still present. The house hereis Simon Rapalje's house on New Lots Avenue in 1913. A lot more to come on this.
