Jan 2008 Updates
I just returned from the road and wanted to share a number of great contributions
that have come in recently- they will all be moved out to their respective pages soon

Reservoir, 1930's Up until now we have worked on the assumption that the beautiful early reservoir fences were removed for
the war effort. We have to rethink that now, thanks to some photos sent in by Ted Maciag.
These pictures are of his mother standing by the reservoir in 1931 and 1934. The fence is
already gone! Back to the drawing board on that mystery. |
Ted also sent in this great 1928 picture taken in front of 432 Warwick Street, which is just south of Pitkin Ave. The El can be seen on the right.
We need a car buff to ID the great car in the shot. |

We continue to find key postcards;
this Brooklyn Eagle card shows what the "new" P.S. 64 looked like just after it was completed in 1901. Just a few years later extensive wings were added to the structure which was
finally torn down in the 1980s. |

My old friend Tom O'Meara sent these
shots of Ashford Street in the 1960s. When I tell some guys I grew up on Ashford Street, they ask; "Did you know the O'Meara sisters?". That's Tom with sister Joan in 1968 and on the left
a mid 60s shot of sisters Maureen and Joan with niece Dawn Gagliucci standing in front of 110 Ashford. |
74 Hendrix Street Joann Montgomery sent me a slew of great material- starting here with the 1941 tax photo of 74 Hendrix
and even an update shot! |
P.S. 76 Joann also sent in this class shot from 1944. Her aunt, Rose Signorello, is in the 3rd row 4th from the right. Tim O' Reilly sent me the 1941 tax photo of the schoolyard in the rear. |
206 Norwood Joann also lived at
206 Norwood, and supplied the 1941 tax photo as well as the update shot! |
Completing a rare trifecta, Joann even supplies
a shot from the 1970s of the house. |
Norwood Avenue Station Joann supplied these two views looking north towards the station. That's her brother John on the left in the 1953 photo and a view from the 1970s on the right. |
Finishing off Norwood Avenue, another view east down Jamaica Avenue from Norwood circa 1910. |
St. Peters Joann Montgomery supplied us with a bunch of material on St. Peter's, filling in some historical gaps for us, including
the building date. These are samples from a 1937 commemorative booklet. |
St. Malachy's Report Card- 1944, 1949 I
found this on Ebay. All you parochial school veterans will appreciate the tracking of masses attended
and communions received. |
Thomas Jefferson Yearbook, 1948 Another Ebay find, I discovered some interesting time capsule anecdotes. Reference is made to the fact there was no football team during the war years-anyone
know why? The yearbook also 'celebrated' the fact that in 1948 the cafeteria went 'coed'! |
Thomas Jefferson Yearbook, 1948 Much has been made of the recent announcement to close F. K. Lane
but Thomas Jefferson received the same fate 3 years ago- apparently the 2007 class
was the last class to graduate the high school. |
History of Jamaica Trolleys Queens historian published a hard to find booklet on the history of Jamaica Avenue trolleys in 1953. These two shots come from that publication. On the right is a view east on Jamaica from
Sheffield Avenue in 1939. The brick building on the right past the gas station was
Citizen's Bank back then. |
Old Mill Yacht Club, 1951 Richard Lewis sent me some great material on the Old Mill area; I'm still researching and assembling
it but this was a grerat shot of the Yacht Club still standing in 1951. |
St. Rita's nuns Back to more great contributions from Joann Montgomery. On the left is a shot of sister Bridgette in 1963; Mike Pataky and Annette Cipriani have identified the nun on the left as Sr. Miriam. On the right, from a 1964 trip to Washington DC are
sister Julie and sister Thomas . |
F.K. Lane Baby Day, 1948 I'm curious to see what is the oldest "Baby Day" picture we can find. Joann supplied these shots from 1948. She even supplied names; " My Aunt, Rose Signorello Right Front Seat. Next to her is Virginia Fasolino. The other names are Portia Mugnolo,Rose DePasquale,Bernice Levine....The second pic is my Aunt Rose with 2 of her friends - don't know the names. My Grandmother made the dresses for the girls - I understand they were bright pink."

F.K. Lane play "Katrinka", 1947 Joann supplied this Franklin K. Lane play program from 1947.
