Mar 2008 Updates
This page consists of the contributions recently sent in by Bob Reddington, who lived on Cleveland just off of Pitkin from the 40s through the 60s. |

470 Cleveland Street Bob lived at 470 Cleveland Street, and the first shot is Bob in front of the house with his dad in the 1940s.
On the right, again with his dad, on his first communion circa 1948. The view is north with the Pitkin
El in the background. |

Another view of Cleveland Street in the 1940s,
Bob with brother Wally around 1946. |

Bob attended PS 158 over on Belmont and Ashford and this picture was taken in front of the school during a festival circa 1950. |

|
JHS 64 Outing Bob attended JHS 64 after 158, and these shots were taken on a school outing circa 1955- though not in East
New York. Friend Barbara Miller is on the left and Barbara with schoolfriends on the right. |

Back to Cleveland Street, the view is south and the time period 1967. Bob notes the building on the corner was a mattress factory
(Montrose Mattress?), but was once a theater. I need to research that. Pictured is Jim Neuman and Bobby Schwartz, who lived across at 469 Cleveland. On the right Jimmy is standing near Bob's 1959 Chevy, looking a little worse for the wear (the car, not Jimmy!). |

Bob told me it was all gone, and he
wasn't kidding. The Local Live view shows just one building left on that stretch, the
one that sat just north of his house in those early pictures. The mattress factory building
is still on the corner, it was issued a CO in 1935 after alterations so if it was ever a theater
it was probably a silent one. |

Bob also supplied a Liberty Park picture taken in the 1950s
with Carmella Gigante of Linwood Street. |

This great corner shot at Pitkin and Cleveland shows the
dismantling of the elevated line. I assume it is 1957 since Liz Sanford sent in a picture
of the same location at the same time, seen on the right. |

Bob attended St. Michael's, and included this memento of the
ordination of Thomas Perillo. |
